Nice Uncommon Vintage German 4/4 Hamma & Co.stuttgart Label Great Tone. For SaleWe are usually not liberal with the superlatives but in this case we are obligated to make the exception. Every once in a while you find an old but exceptional German trade instrument with the sound rising to the quality of its construction, but then the color appearance usually belies this. But we found one of the exceptions here in a violin that can simply be described beautiful, as well! Possibly from the 40's It has a wonderful tone wood nicely matched from a tight deep grained one piece back to the sides. It wears a rich chocolate maroon oil varnish that creates an almost holographic translucent glow at certain angles. The pattern looks a little similar to Amati style with generous center arching. Scroll is also Italian looking with deep compact volute. A couple big German companies like the Hamma family was known to pursue extensive replication studies and travels to integrate Italy's best violin making secrets. Some say that quite of few of their company retail stock violins were actually made by Italian Master shops at certain junctures in time? This one sure would qualify? It even sounds Italian! With a clear singing voice that resonates evenly with full projection. Looks like original or pretty old pegs, bridge and fittings, chin rest is a vintage Becker. A worthy instrument and may even be suitable for small orchestra work with an enhanced set up and tweaking.
