Northwest Coast Carved Cedar Raven Plaque By Gino Seward:
Mr. Gino Seward is a Master Carver from the west coast of Canada, British Columbia.
Gino has been carving yellow and red cedar for over 30 years. He was born in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. His mother was Coast Salish and his father is of the Kwakiutl nation.
Gino became involved in art and carving when he was 11 years old. He was taught by his Salish grandfather and by the Kwakiutl master carvers Jackson Robertson and William Robertson. You see great similarities, great attention to details, very deep and clean carving.
This piece is absolutely beautiful, Gino signed it on the back. He used old growth traditional Cedar and applied a stain to accentuate the natural wood grain.
It measures 18 inches in length, 6 inches wide and 1 ½ inches thick.
Ginos favorite subjects are animal wall plaques, free standing carvings and totems carved from red and yellow cedar. Gino has two young apprentices, who are keen to preserve the artistic traditions of their ancestors. His carvings have been sold worldwide, mainly to private collections.
Shipping and handling is $15.oo by UPS in the US. To my Canadian friends, it will be shipping by USPS and the cost will be a little higher.
Unfortunately, due to some very bad experiences, I will no longer be shipping outside North America.
