Up for sale i have a museum quality antique Rosemaled trunk dating to the late 1700s, it originates from Hallingdal in Buskerud county and this is on of the large valleys in the east part of Norway. This chest is a early work by the famous Hallingdal painter Herbrand Sata who with his son`s Nils and Embirk Bæra invented the high quality Rosemaling style that originates from Hallingdal. Early in his career he painted a very reconicable style with barokk flowers and rococo shaped floral patterns. This trunk has high quality floral patterns on front and on the lid all divided by metal bands. Simiular trunk to this are depicted in many book and in museum and high quality private collections. The metal work on this trunk is some of the best i have ever seen, it has been made by a master blacksmith, even the lock and key are decorated with rococo style flowers. This is the best trunk for the 1700s i have listed on and both the quality of the Rosemaling and the metalwork is amazing, for being over 200 years old it is in great condition has one crack in the lid. It has its original lock and key and this has 3 locking hinges in lidthat locks when put down on the lock, the handles on the side was hand forged and looks great. This trunk was made for a rich person back in the late 1700s and for a collector of Folk Art items from Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Scandinavia as a whole this would be the star of most collections outside Europe, i have not seen a Norwegian trunk this early on . So if you want a museum quality trunk in you collection, this is the one to buy, measures 43\" wide 26\" tall and 26\" deep, so a very nice sized chest easy to place.
