PHILCO MODEL 70 (EARLY) SN-087037 CIRCA 1931/32
This is thedesirable "Baby Grand" model 70. Almost every historical detail and bit oftechnical information about the radiocan be found on Ron Ramirez's superbPhilco site. This particular radio has had all bakelite block capacitors replaced along with the electrolytics. A reproduction grille cloth, from John Okolowicz,has been added. It has a new cloth covered AC cord. ALL labels are reproductions that I made ... ($20.00 plus $5.00shipping as a Buy It Now). The hand rubbed, high gloss finish will lookoutstanding in any room where the radio is displayed. AM stations can be heard loud and clear with the addition of an external antenna but I am able to receive several local stations (Chambersburg, PA, Shippensburg, PA, andHagerstown, MD)without it. The speaker, tubes and knobswill be removed and packaged in a separate box withina larger boxfor safe shipment.
If you are not familiar with this model, be sure you or someone re-installs the grille cloth and frame, speaker, the speaker plug,tubes, knobs and the all important tube shield before power is applied or reception will not be as you expect. Check to be certain that the volume control - (lower right knob) - is at minimum prior to power up and then increase it slowly after approximately 45 seconds to 1 minuteas this version does not have AVC -(automatic volume control).
The tubes: Four #24, one #27, one #47 and one #80 rectifier.
It is 18" high X16-1/2" wide X 10-7/8" deep and weighs approximately 38 lbs.
