Old Demijohn Hand Blown Glass Italian Wine Bottle Jug 2096:
anne3261 Store truly OLDGlass Wine Demijohn Jug s are just getting almost Impossible to find anymore (and more and more Expensive when we DO find them). No wonder........as they've become so collectible most people won't part with them once they have at least ONE. THESE are the old glass demijohn jugs they used to wrap in wicker for wine.
We have a supplier who imported many of these old jugs from Italy (with and without the wicker) several years ago. We've picked through them through the years and sold them here in our store. But when we went on our last buying run we discovered that his inventory is almost exhausted. So webought ALL of the remaining jugs (those with and without wicker) regardless of condition because we know it's doubtful he'll be able to source more in the future.
Designers love to use these to make arrangements with. You can see them in many of the designer magazines that are outAND they turn up regularly on many of the cable design shows. Many also like to mix and match these by using different sizes and/or mixing them with the wicker wrapped ones. You CAN buy reproductions for a LOT LESS money, but if you're like me you just prefer to own the REAL thing. They just have more history, character, markings and Weight.
The truly OLDHAND Blownones like this areNOT going to be in PERFECT condition. This one was FILTHY when I got it. I have literally cleaned on it off and on for MONTHS.It had some sort of sticky residue all over the interior. I hand-tumbled it several times as well as SOAKING it for hours. I now have it in nice....CLEAR condition.
The glass is nice and mostly clear and I LOVE...LOVE...LOVE the MANY swirls in the glass andmany air bubbles as indicative of age. Thehas several straw marks IN the glass which makes it really visually interesting. The lip DOES have one TINY chip (all pictured below).
There are some oddities with this jug. Some sort of hard silversubstance is stuck in a drippy formation to the inside of the neck. Even MORE interesting....there's some odd looking formation INSIDE the jug. When I first had the jug it was rattling around inside of it. It has since become permanently LODGED to the base of the jug. It's brown....VERY hard.....and has some sort of silver vein running through it. It will NOT come out of the jug. It's too big. I have NO idea how it got in there. But since it's too big to get OUT....it does cause one to pause and wonder!
Just a beautiful One-Of-A-Kind piece with LOADS of character!
We take INDIVIDUAL Pictures of EACHjug we ever carry so the pictures you see BELOW are of the ACTUAL jug you will RECEIVE.
