*ITEM DESCRIPTION. The item up for offer is a vintage Paperweight/Plaque wood block made of material from USS Constitution's original Hull.

Thispiece was part of a series that was sold in 1927 to raise funds to restore the ship using actual material from the craft. I believe the wood is oak(quite old oak at that). I believe the medallion and inscription are bronze.

The medallion in the middle has a depiction of the USS Constitution. Reads: Old Ironsides/ Frigate Constitution; Launched 1797; 1805 Tripoli; 1812 Guerriere Java; 1815 Cyane Levant;Inscription reads: This Material Was Taken From The Original Hull of the U.S. Frigate Constitution; Keel Laid 1794 Rebuilding 1927.

The piece measures approximately 4-3/4" in length, a little over 4-1/2" in height, 3/4" in depth.

Please see pics. I believe the rear, top edge "damage" is actually from the wood taken from the hull and was probably the result of removal or age(the ship was in pretty bad shape in the 1920s, hence the need to raise funds to restore it). There is a small nail in the back, which i assume was there if the wood block was intended to be hung. Appears to be some white paint on the reverse.

Otherwise, the wood is solid considering age. I am assuming the oak could brightened up if desired. The bronze has a patina to it in spots and again should clean up if desired.

A fine display piece, a wonderful piece of American History.

Description contains item final shipping weight as well as the shipping amount when possible. Shipping total includes item, box and packing to protect the item. The shipping cost is determined by your zip code(in the case of Priority Mail) at the end of the sale using USPS website and your zip code. USPS Priority Mail starts at $5.80 and depending on where the buyer is located in the domestic USA and goes up from there. It is determined by where in the United States the buyer is located in relation to Zip Code 15212. The farther away from Pittsburgh, PA you live, the more expensive the shipping is. It is not until the sale ends that I am able to determine the final shipping costs for items that are to be sent via USPS Priority Mail. First Class is determined by shape and weight, Media Mail and Parcel Post are determined solely by weight. I do my best to estimate the shipping weight prior the sale so as to provide the buyer with an idea what shipping will be. I do my best to insure the fairest possible shipping cost. All possible care is made to package the items so they will arrive to you in the state that they left in.

Please do not use 's check out system(this is so I can send you an invoice with correct shipping amount). We will contact high buyer by email after close of the sale.

International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to offerding/buying.(These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up – do not confuse them for additional shipping charges. We do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as ‘gifts’ – US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.)

Priority Mail International for international buyers is preferred though when other USPS options are available, I am open to suggestions. I always leave response once response is left. That lets me know the buyer is satisfied and the transaction is complete.

PLEASE NOTE: If the sale is not explicitly stated as a “BUY IT NOW” sale, offers to end the sale early will not be considered.

Thank you for viewing my sale.
