Old Leaded Glass Lamp Shade Signed Tiffany Studios New York - Woodbine For SaleUp for sale is a lamp shade I've had for about 20 years. I collected a lot of these types of things over the last 45 years and this is one I've held back on for some time. I'm downsizing and need to put it out there now. I bought this from an estate dealer in Palm Beach, Florida. He could give me very little information other than to say it came from a wealthy family and had no base because there was some family rift and the two were separated. It's obviously a beautiful shade and the leading and glass are just incredible. This is a Woodbine patterned shade. It's signed Tiffany Studios New York on one tag impressed into the bottom rim. The other tag has the number 1468 on it. There is also what's commonly referred to as a tag or shade loop or ring on the inside. I cannot authenticate this shade and am listing it for what it is; a beautiful quality shade with the signature and numbers impressed. I bought it in the belief that it was an original and authentic antique piece, but have no pedigree or authority that I can provide that can tell me for sure if it is or isn't authentic. What is evident is the quality in both the glass and the workmanship. The glass is wonderful hues of purple or wine with yellow and green shards of iridescent glass fused into the background. This was, I believe called confetti glass. The leaves of the flora are in varying shades of green. I know that sometimes manufacturers like Bradley and Hubbard (B&H), Handel, Unique and other famous makers of the day produced shades similar to Tiffany's, even sometimes copying the designs and modifying them to their own styles. It's possible this is one of those and someone's added the signature and numbers. It's also possible that the shade was a masterfully crafted reproduction. The patina and verdigris of the lead work (copper foil) is so good that it's just superior to any reproduction I've ever seen. There is no "rattling" or whisper to this shade; it's solid and stable. I've tried to take numerous photos at different angles and in different light to showcase the beauty. Diameter is 16" with a 4" aperture. It stands about 7" tall overall. If you are in the area of Northern IL and want to view this in person, we can make arrangements to do so. Please understand without question that I am not able to guaranty this shade as I don't have a good history or pedigree on it and I have not engaged nor have access to experts who are authorities on leaded lamps and Tiffany in particular. I paid a considerable amount to the dealer for this but that was years ago. The market is what it is and as I need to move things out and this is next in line, it's up for sale. I am going to start this at a price far below what I have in it. I am relying on the community who knows these lamps and shades to make their own judgment through the offerding process. I also will reserve the right to pull this shade if it doesn't bring sufficient interest within a reasonable time before the listing ends. I'll answer any other questions that you may have however, I've given as much information as I can without going outside what I actually know. This is a lovely shade whether authentic or a quality reproduction, you won't go wrong and you should have a chance to get in at a good price.
