This is a rare find of a mini, mechanical dome clock that was created in Germany about 70 years ago by Johann \"Schmid,\" one of the best know novelty clock makers in this region of the world. This looks like one of the 400 day anniversary clocks of old but it\'s barely 6\" high with the dome in place; really cool! The clock is mostly brass and where the dome doesn\'t cover on the outside of the base, it has a really nice patina going for it! The dome is made of clear acrylic and allows easy viewing of the clock movement, rotating pendulum, and the turning gears as time ticks away. There are four brass pillars holding the clock movement in place and a brasstone, four ball pendulum connected to the clock movement. The dial is brass metal and has a beveled bezel on the outer edge and a fancy center. The hours are marked with white shields behind black, easy to read Roman numerals at each hour mark and fancy hands to point out the time. The name, \"Schmid\" appears in his familiar calligraphic signature logo just above center and the phrase, \"8 Day\" appears in black block letters just below center. The back is brass too and both the winding key and time setting knob are intact. The clock is fitted with a mechanical, balance wheel movement that is designed to last about 8 days on each wind. And the clock does work and keeps good time but doesn\'t like to stay running. It runs for about two or three minutes, sometimes hours and eventually stops; not sure why but it probably needs to be serviced or adjusted. It is an old clock and we don\'t know the service history so service work is expected on this little guy. If you do the repairs or have them done, remember to service this antique or vintage clock at least once every three years. This small step will keep a classic clock like this one running strong for years to come. I\'ve looked it over fairly well and note average wear and no damage that I can see; gorgeous on display! The clock isvery impressive and the ideal size too measuringabout 6\" high (with the dome in place) and about 4\" deep and wide.This clock is in a class all by itselfand is certain to bethefocal point of any collection. Anyguests in your home oroffice will be more than pleased to see this rare Germantimepiecein action.
