Orca: Rare Hell's Canyon Herringbone Petrified Wood Slab:
ORCA: Rare Hell's Canyon Herringbone Petrified Wood Slab This is thought to be sequoia and the rough was found quite a number of years ago along the Snake river on the Idaho, Oregon border. The zig zag pattern in this material gives it a 3D effect and the small holes are from a fungus the tree had before it petrified. Most all of the holes are lined with a quartz crystal or opal. This cuts and awesome cabochon and are quite sought after and a bit expensive. There is a very good article on this in the February 2010 issue of Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist magazine. Pictures taken wet and dry. Good luck offerding.
