An original 1840s to 1850s antique Victorian era wrapper in a lovely shade of deep cinnamon and ivory calico print. Wonderful construction as most of it is created by hand along w a few areas of reinforcement to be machine repaired. The inner bodice which is a built in buttoned camisole created with lightweight cotton has narrow black wooden stays only in the front (the black wood is visible because the seams are open). French seamed neckline and armycyes; an original belt is present, and is sewn onto the sides of the dress from the back built in band. Wonderful still very tight cartridge pleats in all the appropriate places! This dress was worn and worked in, there is some fading, small holes, and some black marks; none of which I would find offensive. It is a superb for display and perfect for study; although I never recommend any period garments being worn this one could be worn. Because it was part of my collection that sometimes was rented out as a prototype for study, there is an iron on label inside that cannot be seen from the outside. Although it is in overall good displayable condition, I am selling as is. The measurement given above are approx measurements; the mannequin that is modeling it is a size 4 and it fits perfectly. This wonderful dress is truly an example of a typical house wrapper of the pre Civil War era.
