***Please ask all questions prior to buying*** This listing is for an original lady\'s dressing gown from the Civil War Era. It was found at Emmitsburg, MD which Civil War buffs know was the route the Confederate troops used to approach nearby Gettsburg, PA. The fabric is a medium-weight white cotton. The yoke is fabulously embroidered! Both front and back are exquisitely designed with broderie anglais openwork. Similar trim adorns the cuffs. The gown and cuffs fasten with their original pearl buttons. The gown features dropped shoulders without the customary piped armholes and Bishop sleeves. Not often, but occasionally one can find early garments without piped armholes. This dressing gown is reinforced at the shoulders and armholes with an extra facing instead. The skirt is gored and very wide. This is really a great dress and a great period example from right at the heart of the War! It can be WORN with care and is suitable for display, as well as patterning and study. The petticoat and belt shown are for display only and are not included. Condition: Structurally sound with some holes near the left hem. Please see photos and ask questions.Measurements are: The bust measures about 44 inches. The waist measures about 48 inches. The bodice is about 17.75 inches across the shoulders. The front length is about 51 inches.Please note: Measurements are approximate and should be taken as maximum.
