Original 1890s Set Of Paper Dolls By Selchow & Righter "american Beauties No. 1":
Very rare and beautiful, original 1890's, Set of Children's Paper Dolls titled “American Beauties No.1" and manufactured by Selchow & Righter of New York. This fantastic set of Paper Doll’s includes three die cut Doll figures each with a folding, easel type stand on the reverse that are printed on a light card stock. Each of the Paper Dolls wear slips and measures approx. 8 1/2” tall. The Set includes 4 dresses and three hats (likely one hat is missing) and comes with the original paper envelope which features an image of a paper doll in one of the outfits enclosed on the front panel.
This very rare, original 19th century American Beauties No. 1 Paper Doll set is in good to very good condition. The Paper Dolls and outfits are all die cut (rather than hand cut) as issued. All pieces are clean - the chromolithograph colors are bright and beautiful and all tab slots are intact and strong. Two of the three Paper Doll figures have light creases at the neck and one has a light crease at the right ankle. The dresses and hats are very well preserved. The original envelope / packaging is essentially complete and intact but has edge wear and edge tears as can be seen in the scans below.
