Up for offer is an original civil war letter written by Confederate officer Lt. Samuel Houston Horton while serving in Whitfields Legion of Texas Cavalry. The letter has tremendous content including Lt Horton writing ,\"The Yankees I fear will soon have the entire control of the Mississippi, cutting off all communication between the East & West, Nor am I positive that this will ever meet your gaze, NO, IT MAY LIGHT THE PIPE OF SOME YANKEE CUT THROAT YET. Lt. Horton also goes into detail about the horrors encountered in Confederate hospitals. The letter was written by Lt. Horton to his wife Mollie and is signed ,Your affectionate Husband S.H.H. Samuel Houston Horton was named after Sam Houston whom his father had served under. The 1 sheet 4 page folded (front & back) letter measures 9.75 X 8 inches when unfolded. The letter has some areas of insect/rodent damage as seen not affecting much text and also has a few small archival tape repairs. In my opinion the content sort of makes up for the condition problems. Guaranteed authentic in every regard.
