Original Imperial German Artillery Saber Sword & Scabbard, Smaller Blucher, Wwi For Sale
This is a Prussian or German Artillery enlisted man's saber, of the "Blucher" style. It is of the modified from, which means that it is smaller than the more massive version carried during the Napoleonic Wars. This saber was carried by both artillery and initially by cavalry through WWI, and even afterwards. This one has an exceptionally nice grip and scabbard. The blade seems as if it has been ground on a bit before being blued. There may have been some pitting, but that has been ground out and blued, I assume at the time of its issue in WWI. The scabbard has its heavy coat of old WWI black paint. The back of the blade has the date stamp for 1903. There are no other visible unit markings. The sword is very tight, and the scabbard fits perfectly. The overall length is 36 1/2 inches, and the blade is 30 inches. This was a heavy combat weapon. The photo is NOT included in the sale. I am just using it to show an identical sword being worn in the period.
