Original Indian Wars Model 1874 Sword Belt With Civil War Holster :
MODEL 1874 US CAVALRY SWORD BELT WITH HOLSTER. This belt is 43 inches long and is fully flexible--no stiffness. The belt has no tears or weak points--there are a few small spots were the black finish is worn; mostly where the brass slide is located. The brass hardware (belt waist hook and buckle clasp) are soundly fitted with original rivets and stitching. There is one brass belt slide with sword/saber hook--this would have been used with the Stewart saber strap. Also included with the belt is an original Hagner belt plate. The belt is a lightly stamped Rock Island Arsenal. The holster is a Model 1863 for the Army Colt or similar size pistol. It is left-hand draw. There is some aging to the holster--very minor leather cracking and loss of the black finish, however the stitching and rivets are sound and the leather is flexible. I have some suspicion about the authenticity of the holster. There is a partial stamp on the back of the belt loop that reads "E" "GAY....D". These marks--suggesting Gaylord manufacture--may be original or spurious (I tried to capture these marks in the 4th photo). Whatever the origin of the holster, it is well made and in strong condition. This is a nice belt and holster with all original components as described above. A nice display item for any collector of Indian Wars militaria.
