Original Ww2 A2 Painted Usaaf Flight Jacket - A Once In A Lifetime Opportunity For Sale
This genuine WW2 A2 flight jacket has never been messed with, or repaired. It is in the same condition as when it was worn by Sgt. George Harris at the end of WW2. George Harris was assigned to 8th Air Force, 446th Bomber Group and the 706th Bomber Squadron as evidenced by the Pegasus on the sewn unit patch. Sgt. Harris was assigned to several B24 aircraft during the war, but his main assignment was to the "Dodgin Don" (see pics). This B24J had a tail number of 42-50667. It crash landed in Europe in 1943 and was scrapped. The Donald Duck with the machine gun represents that same Disney nose art as was on the B24. Sgt Hariis was a door gunner on this aircraft. Before the war was over he served on several other B24's and successfully completed 30 missions. The back of the jacket shows theeuropean theater and the missions he went on, each bomb is numbered. This jacket is an Aero and retains the original tag inside. It also has the original Talon zipper with an original token on the pull, there is also a Topeka Air Station bus token in the pocket from when he was in training. The yellow liner is in remarkable condition with no tears. There is some sleeve damage to the leather on the left side andsome scrapping on the bacl of the jacket. The sleeve cuff and waist cuff have some moth nips.On the front of the jacket you will find the 706th BS unit patch and George's stylized name painted on with a red V with the morse code for V. My research indicates that the red V and the morse code above it was for airmen who were selected towards the end of the war to tour the USon a Victory tour to help recruitment. It was a special assignment and a special honor tobe selected.George returned to northern California and lived to a ripe old age. I received the jacket some years ago from a member of his family after he passed away. Please ask questions before you offer.
