Orleans Indiana Soldier Robert D.o. Barker Civil War Kia? Identified Tintype For Sale
We've sold many great Civil War images and yet we're still novices. Our immediate assumption was that this is a post-War soldier because of the amount of buttons down the front. The flower design on the jacket threw us off, too. But then pulling the tintype out it seems early, so we're confused. We'll leave it for the Civil War and military crowd to sort it out.Handwritten in pencil inside case: "Robert D.O Barker. Orleans Indiana."HOUSING. Split case with lots of wear.SIZE. Tintype alone is approximately 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches. Housing and parts are sixth plate size. CONDITION. Pristine condition other than severe oxidation, which you can see. No bends, No scratches.APPEARANCE. Oxidation is evident. Nice gold tilting. Especially sharp features.On Mar-11-13 at 20:33:23 PDT, seller added the following information:
NOT KIA BUT CIVIL WAR. Someone scolded us for putting 'KIA ?' in title: "He enlisted 2-16-64 in the Indiana 24th Infantry, and was discharged 11-15-65. The uniform is CW, and is a variant of a zouave jacket."
