Overland Models/ajin Up 7002 Streamlined 4-8-2 "forty-niner", New In Box, Superb:
The Union Pacific bought forty 4-8-2's in 1922 for heavy passenger service; several of these locomotives were later streamlined. The streamlining on #7002 was unique, however. While others were given the bulbous nose treatment, #7002 was streamlined especially for use on the UP's crack all-Pullman "Forty Niner" passenger train that was run from 1938 to 1941 between Chicago and San Francisco to help celebrate their Golden Gate Exhibition. I believe this is the only one of these locomotives to be given Timken roller bearings on all axles.
This model looks beautiful and runs as well as it looks. The paintwork, detail and finish work on this complex model are the best I have seen--much of the brightwork and trim appears to be either highly polished stainless steel orchrome plate, even the faces of the gauges on theback head are correctly done. The paint faithfully replicates the prototype's Armour Yellow, Leaf Brown and Scarlet paint scheme. The overall effect is Art Deco at its' finest! Ajin Precision Mfg built a vary limited run of these models for Overland Models in the late 1990's; this model was sold new on August 19, 2000; the model is factory painted and finished, has working lights, even a cam on the driver axle for sound. There are two plastic pouches with extra parts and an Allen wench included. I would grade this model Like New because it has been test-run only. I bought it several years ago, have never run it, but it purred like a kitten when I put test leads on it and ran smoothly in either direction. There are no nicks or scratches, no parts missing or loose, no paint chips or scuffs. The box and foam are in like new condition, as shown in the photos.
In case there is any doubt, this is the most exquisite HO import I have ever seen in a total of sixty-five years of model building and collecting! I am sorry to have to sell it.
