NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ANCESTRY... NOSTALGIC MOUNTED IMAGE Seen here in this highly collectable image Officers of the 4th Battalion, the Northamptonshire Regiment in 1920. In the centre (with walking stick) is Lieutenant-Colonel John Brown, the Commanding Officer. A Northampton man who joined the Volunteers at the time of the Boer War, he served with the Battalion right through the Gallipoli campaign and in Egypt and Palestine. In 1918 he was awarded the DSO, and in 1920, when the 4th Northamptons were re-formed as a territorial battalion, he was appointed officer commanding. He was knighted in 1934.
