Title:

Antique Camel Saddle Bag

Description:

Presented for your consideration is this interesting antique camel saddle bag (or kilim). The bag is made of wool and is entirely hand woven. It is made to be placed under the saddle on the back of a camel. Because of this purpose the midsection is flat with very small, tight weaves. The midsection has a dark brown and light brown striped design with thin multicolored stripes throughout. These stripes match the coloration on the edging. Each side of the bag has a large pocket for storing canteens, food and travel supplies for when Middle Easterners would ride through the desert for days. The front of each pocket has an intricate Middle Eastern inspired pattern with colors of blue, cream, orange and red. Each pocket is finished with a red and white braided cord. The back of the bag is a solid brown. Guaranteed to be old. This interesting camel saddle bag would make a great addition to any textile collection!
There was a repair made near the top of one of the pockets. Some pilling is beginning to occur in the midsection and some light staining is on the back of one of the pockets. There is some light to mild wear from age and use. No rips or tears. All stitches appear to be intact. Overall in GOOD condition. Please refer to the photos for the absolute best details.
Measures 48 1/2" wide when laying flat and 16 1/2" long.
