Old Antique Rare Nc Southern Pottery Redware North Carolina Stoneware Catawba For Sale
Hello, Up for your consideration is just the Best EARLY 2 Gallon 19th Century North Carolina Pottery Redware Jar.. It is a Masterpiece in Form and Glaze thrown by a Great NC Potter. The photos speak for themselves this is an extraordinary piece of North Carolina Pottery History and world be a wonderful addition to any Redware/Pottery/ Southern/ NC Collections. What you can not see in the photos is this jug is so very light... because of the masterfully potted thin walls. The beautiful runny Green Catawaba Valley Glaze and the Stamp which looks like J. J. ? 2 for 2 gallons.. but if you know your NC pottery you can see that it really looks like a partial of the James Franklin Seagle. I think the F is missing the middle dot and the S is really just a shadow but there does appear to be a period for the S.. I took lots of photos for you to see and decide for yourself.. I don't know alot about Catawba Valley Pottery it could be someone from the Seagle School that had those initials but noDOUBT by its design and the stamp it was from someone iN the Seagle Circle ofFamily or Friends.. If you find documented examples of Seagles Number 2 stamp you will see the 2 on my jug is the same. It has a beautiful curved extruded handle.. three of the Seagle rings around the lip and there is the tiny finger impression at the end of the handle.. the finger mark is so small i almost thought it might have been a lady or childs or maybe even a stamp you will notice it is a perfect circle. It is REDWARE not stoneware so it was made before Seagle's switch to Stoneware which makes it early...What a great find.. You don't see these every day and if you are a Southern or North Carolina Collector you don't want to miss out.. I welcome any questions or ideas on who the stamp is... Payment is paypal only unless other arrangements have been made prior to sales end with payment due within 3 days of sales end..
