Here we have the Caddilac of Zenith’s 1941 line
of table radios. This highly sought after model 7-S-633R features a gorgeous
dark walnut cabinet, large black dial, wrap around grill, numerous tone
controls, automatic tuning, loop antenna, powerful 7 tube chassis, and
exceptional performance on the AM broadcast and shortwave bands.
Cabinet: The dark
walnut cabinet is just beautiful. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the
entire set. A large wrap around grill adds a nice Art Deco appeal while
allowing for optimal sound from the speaker. It all comes together magnificently
with the large, lighted black dial surrounded by all the pushbuttons and gold escutcheon.
What a terrific sight, that Zenith was so famous for capturing. Dark walnut
tones and jet black trim finish the cabinet off perfectly. This highly sought
after beauty is sure to turn heads no matter which room in the home or office
you choose to display it in.
The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process: Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous
restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and
grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all
the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit
pads down to the original bare wood. All nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled
and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. New stains and sealers are
applied by hand. We continue by using a minimum 12 coats of Mohawk brand
lacquers and toners. We use a nitrocellulose piano type lacquer which is
applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate
controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin
coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A
1000, 2000, & 4000 grit wet sanding follows every third coat. The cabinet
is finished off with a three step polishing process ending with an Oz glaze
rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final
outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&
shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to
proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
Dial/Knobs: Just look at that spectacular black dial surrounded by
numerous tone and automatic tuning controls. Quite the ‘eye catcher’! It is
illuminated by two new dial lamps and displays all the station frequencies for
three separate bands, as well as country names, for shortwave reference. White
arrow indicators, located on the bottom of the dial, lets you know which band
you are currently listening to. All numbers and letters on the dial are legible
and show little signs of wear. The shiny sleek ‘Z’ pointer moves nice and
smooth across the dial. A large gold escutcheon surrounds the dial and houses
various tone controls to the right, as well as automatic tuning controls to the
left. The dial glass is clear and free from any chips, breaks, or cracks. All
knobs are in excellent shape and work as follows; band switch, manual tuning,
on/off and volume.
Electronics/Chassis: All tubes in the 7 tube
chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and
resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was
replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned
for optimal performance. The radio performs exceptionally well on the AM
broadcast and shortwave bands. I am able to pick up many stations, near and
far, with deep rich tone and plenty of volume. A 30 day warranty is included on
all the tubes, capacitors, resistors, and filters. Due to age and design of
some antique radio parts we cannot warranty transformers, coils, and speakers.
However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in
repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost.
