Up for sale is this old used leather Cairns Bro. fireman's helmet with shield. This helmet belonged to a New York fireman. His name and NYFD are written on the inside of the helmet. It appears to have seen it's share of fires. The badge attached to the front has the number 36 (Ladder 36) and 4464. This helmet was well used and looks to have seen it's share of fires. The brass FD emblem piece on top has a patent date of no. 1.889.537 and the backside of the attached badge on the front has the Cairns Bros. name on the brass or copper piece on the backside. The cushion lining on the inside of the helmet still has the Cairns label attached which reads: Cairns Sanitary Cushion Lining with 4 patent #'s. MEASUREMENTS: Helmet measures approx. 14" deep (not including the shield pcs.) X 11"wide X 7 1/2" high.If you need any further measurements PLEASE feel free to ask BEFORE offerding. CONDITION REPORT:PLEASE READ BEFORE offerDING-This is an old used helmet. Looks to have seen a fire or 2. Shows wear, stains, melting?, leather cracks and drying. Front badge has some missing leather pieces on the top of the backside, the part that should slide under the brass FD emblem slot on top of the helmet. This brass piece is bent/dented in. (See Photo). Still has it's 2 plastic shields attached to the front with both bolts with nuts. Leather has worn through in an area along back edge of metal frame. Loop for hanging is still attached and has surface rust. There are some loose melted? pcs. on the top of the rivet that holds this loop in place. The inside is dusty, dirty. Cairns Bros.tag is missing that would have been in the center. It does still have the fabric Cairns label attached to the liner. The owner wrote his name and NYFD on the inside of the helmet. this helmet could use a details cleaning which we will leave to the experts. Colors in photos may not be exact.
