Old Calfornia Pomo Basket Bowl, C. 1900

Old CALFORNIA POMO BASKET BOWL, c. 1900 Very Old Patina - Old New England Accumulation This is a very old northern California coiled basketry bowl made by the Pomo about 1900, or so. Basket is 7 1/8" in diameter and 2 1/2" high, and it is woven using coiled rod construction with very tight stitching. There are 6 coils per inch and maybe 20 stitches per inch, but it is difficult to count the stitches accurately. The foundation is solid and the basket sits flat with no lean. This piece has typical stepped triangle decoration often used by the Pomo, and it is a finely crafted basket with a tight start and a very finely tapered finish. The surface has darkened with age and it has a great old patina. There are some stitches missing and one very tight crack in the rods at the rim that could be glued, but baskets of this age are not often found in this good condition. This has been tucked away in an old New England accumulation for many years and fresh to the market now. Shipping is $6.50 Priority mail within the US, and any insurance coverage is at the buyer's option and expense (required on most breakable items). There is a 14 day money back inspection period, and email for more information and payment details. Thank you. _gsrx_vers_454 (GS 6.3 (454))
