Old Chinese Cinnabar LacquerMade Jewelry Box/Cosmetic Jar. This box/jar is a very fine example that is carved out of authentic cinnabar lacquer.The beautiful dragonimageisjust carved out out of the cinnabar lacquer. On the surface of the cover it was designed witha powerful dragon flying among auspicious clouds. The body of the main boxwas also decorated with flower patterns. The insidesurface was covered with a layer of black lacquer.Such item was called carved lacquerware which is a traditional Chinese craft originated fromTang dynasty. In Yuan and Ming dynasty such craft was introduced into Beijing and developed into the summit. Later it becomes a famous craft in Beijing. The superb craftmanship shows the Chinese world well-known artistic skills to a high level.The condition is old but very good. It will be a nice collection for you.The ancients believed that dragon was the symbol of the supreme auspiciousness, a bridge between man, Heaven and the Deities. They thought that the dragon was able to summon wind and rain, ascend to and descend from Heaven, and produce auspicious signs. The dragon even appeared in astronomy and numerology, and influenced the passing of the imperial power.
