DESCRIPTION:

This sale is for an old wooden Chinese Ming stylebench, stool, or table. The bench is madejichimu or chicken feather wood, which is a dense tropical hardwood that is nativeto Hainan Island. It is prized forits beautiful grain pattern that resembles chicken feathers. The wood is almost as sought after aszitan or huanghuali wood and is prized by Chinese furniture collectors andconnoisseurs.

CONDITION:

The piece is in good condition. However, there is some weathering ofthe wood on the bottom of one of the legs (see last picture). The person I acquired this piece fromhad used it outside in his patio so there was some exposure to theelements. However, the wood is intactand in good condition other than the one leg mentioned above.

The bench measures approximately 22 ½ inches highand 38 inches long. The width is 6inches at the top (across the seating area). And the width is 16 ½ inches at the bottom . I don’t knowthe age of the piece but I’m guessing less than 100 years old. This is only a guess.
