Old Josef Guarnerius Fecit Cremonae Anno 17 Ihs Violin, bow, Wood Case For Repair:
Old violin says Josef Guarnerius fecit cremonae anno 17 IHS on a paper label inside the instrument. I tried to take a picture through the cutout but couldn't get it.The violin was found in the closet of a nice local estate. It measures 24" long by 8 & 1/4" at the widest part of the body.1 & 1/4" thick. The wood case contained a few of the missing pieces of this violin-the bridge, tailpiece and top nut are here. The bow has a little mother of pearl on each end and is marked L. Bausch on the bottom end. There are just a few horse hairs hanging on. The bow is just about 28 & 1/2" long. There are some old paper string bags in the top compartment of the case.....Bruno,Acme & Perfection. There are some remains of old strings in there as well. The wood case is nice. It is missing one of the metal sraps that holds it closed but nice overal with the 2 compartments inside and kind of wallpaper interior. The body is beautiful. Nice tiger design on the back and sides. No cracks ot chips in the wood. There is a little wear to the tips and a few little surface marks on the front but I think you'll be very happy with the body. Buyer pays shipping and included insurance for 6 pounds from New York zip 12569. Thank you. It is an unusual size and it looks like shipping from New York to California is about $60 prioriity mail to give you an idea. I didn't check the UPS price.
