Old Russian Sterling Silver Filigree Chicken Besamim Spice Box Havdalah Pomander:

Up for sale is an antique sterling silver filigree box in the shape of a chicken. Piece is extremely ornate and finely detailed throughout. Every accent is beautifully executed, from the intricate feather work to the red crystal eyes. It measures approximately 3 1/2 inches tall, 5 inches long, and 3 3/4 inches wide. It weighs 158 grams. Piece is unmarked and unsigned, as far as I can tell. The metal has been examined, however, and tested positive for high content silver. Piece is in excellent condition for age with minor wear and imperfections. The metal has tarnished evenly over time and has acquired a nice patina. Piece was probably made in the 19th century and is most likely Continental or Middle Eastern in origin. It most closely resembles a Besamim spice box or a potpourri vessel.
Piece was lightly cleaned before being photographed. You may wish to have it professionally cleaned or polished.
