Old Antique Bisque Composition German Dep Heinrich Handwerck Simon Halbig Doll:
I am pleased to offer you this lovely old bisque head German doll. Incised on the back of her bisque head is " 109-12,DEP, Germany, Handwerck, 4". Reference attributes to Heinrich Handwerck with the bisque head being made by Simon & Halbig, 1869 - 1930Germany. DEP is a registered name or trade mark used by both the French and Germans. I do not know her past history but will try to describe her and any flaws the best I can. This doll measures 23" tall being a bisque socket head on strung composition wood ball jointed body. Doll is strung fine, missing one finger on the left hand.Finger nails accented with red for that realistic look. She is jointedat the neck, arms, elbows, wrists, legs and knees. Body shows wear, scuffs, and is stamped "Germany 8". I believe body to have the original finish. If there are any paint touch ups I can't tell. Beautifulface with smooth bisque that Simon & Halbig is known for. Doll has open and close blue glass sleepy eyes that work fine, painted lashes around the eyes, brush stroked brown brows, open mouth with teeth. She has "pierced ears" but is NOT wearing any earrings. There is a faint little dimple in her chin.I removed the pate from her head to examine and seeplaster cement inside that was used to secure the sleepy eyes on rocker as most doll people do, I see a small split on the rim but all intact.I do not see any cracks. Her human hair wig is old with some wearbut charming, possibly her original wig attached to pate. Her floral dress snaps down the back, there is an apron, pantaloons, stockings and shoes. Overall nice condition possibly vintage but not antique like this doll. I have taken plenty of photos. Please look at my photos they will serve as part of this description.
