Old Antique Bisque Composition German Simon & Halbig Schmidt Character Baby Doll:
UP FOR ADOPTION I am pleased to offer you this “delightful” antique German character baby doll. Incised on the back of her bisque head is "1296, F.S. & C., Simon & Halbig, Made inGermany". Reference attributes to German doll maker Simon and Halbig Exclusively for FranzSchmidt& Company, 1890 to 1912on. I do NOT know the past restoration history but will try to describe her the best I can with any flaws. Measures 17"tall being a bisque socket head on jointed bent leg composition baby doll body. Doll is strung fine jointed at the neck, shoulders and legs with all fingers and toes intact. Paint touch-ups on body include red accent lines between fingers and toes withpolish on nails. There is a "working" crier in the stomach. A wonderful character face with fat rosy cheeks, I see no rubs or scratches on this near perfect little face. Doll has open and close brown glass sleepy eyes that work fine, they are also "Flirty" eyes that move from side to side. Upper eye lid is molded with no painted lashes, the lower lashes are painted with straight strokes, lightly applied. The eyebrows are light brown with many individual strokes, she has pierced nostrils with holes punched into the bisque, an innovation of Franz Schmidt in 1912. Doll has open mouth with two upper teeth and "wobble" tongue. A little double babychin accents her overall charm. Dark blonde human hair wig goes over a newer pate on her head. I flashedinside and do not see any cracks or hairlines, there is plaster cement to secure the sleepy eyes, wires inside for the eyes to "flirt" back and forth.I see no splits on the rim, head is a bit dirty inside I did not attempt to clean in any way. Doll wears antique gown with buttons down the back, full slip, undies, knit sweater with matching bonnet and holds old Playtex pacifier in her hand which is included with her, no stockings or shoes.Clothing shows some wear. Her knitbonnet needs a new tie ribbon, it is torn throughout.I have taken plenty of photos. Please look at my photos they will serve as part of this description.
