Celebrating the 1813 British Defeat on Lake Erie
(OLIVER HAZARD PERRY).
Handwritten Poem by “Buzzard” dated July 4, 1821, on a single piece of fine-laid paper, 12.75” x 7.5”, Cincinnati, OH, Choice Fine. A celebration of Perry’s famous victory on Lake Erie on September 10, 1813, the first time in history that an entire British fleet was defeated and captured virtually intact. The whole sheet folds up into a small packet that was sealed and addressed to the Editor of the “Olio,” apparently a publication in Cincinnati. We’re not sure if this was ever published, but it’s a great poem in the style of the period. Unique!
