OLIVER WOLCOTT, JR.
(1760-1833)
In the Revolutionary War, Oliver Wolcott, Jr., son and namesake of a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, served in Connecticut\'s Office of the Committee on the Pay Table (later serving as a Member)and later as Auditor.Wolcott was appointed in 1784 as one of the commissioners to mediate claims between the U.S. and the state of Connecticut. In May 1788, Oliver Wolcott, Jr. was selected to fill the office of U.S. Comptroller of Public Accounts. In September 1789, he was appointed Auditor of the new federal Treasury, assuming his post in early November.
He was appointed by President George Washington, on Alexander Hamilton\'s recommendation, to U.S. Comptroller in June 1791. When Hamilton resigned as Secretary of the Treasury, Wolcott was appointed (February 2, 1795) by Washington to succeed him. He continued serving as Treasury Secretary in the John Adams administration until November 1800.

FENN WADSWORTH(1751-1785) was a Brigade Major to General James Wadsworth from 1776-1779. He fought in many battles during that time, but his failing health forced him to leave active service. He stayed in Connecticut\'s government, however, and was a member of the state\'s Pay-Tablewhich was responsible for military expenditures during the Revolutionary War.
SAMUEL LYMAN(1749-1802),Yale College, class of 1770, was admitted to the bar in 1773 and commenced practice in Hartford, Connecticut. In 1784, he moved to Springfield, Mass., and served in both houses of the Massachusetts State Legislature. Lyman represented Massachusetts in Congress as a Federalist from March 4, 1795, until November 6, 1800.
HEZEKIAH WYLLYS(1747-1827) was a Captain in Colonel Chester\'s regiment in 1776 and fought in the battles of Long Island and White Plains. He was then appointed Colonel of the First Regiment of Militia and frequently turned out on alarms. He was in Putnam\'s force on the Hudson and in Burgoyne\'s campaign, also at Stonington and New Haven when those towns were attacked.

I was the handwriting expert contacted in the \"1775 Almanac\" episode on the PBS series \"HistoryDetectives\" which was televised on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. I was asked to identify the writer of the notes handwritten on the pages of the almanac, notes that recorded, among other events, the Battles of Lexington, Concord, and Bunker Hill.
The unknown owner of the almanac had used it as a diary. Filmed in the Library of Congress, I compared the writing in the almanac with a signed letter handwritten in 1779. --- Herman Darvick
