One Of A Kind 2+ Hr Vhs Tape Of 1970’s Black African American 8mm Home Movies For Sale
My photos were taken from my TV screen as the VHS tape played, I’m sorry for the poor quality of my photos, the actual footage looks much better. All wavy lines are photo aberrations, and not on this original VHS. All actual images are much better than my photos. As you can see some photos have those lines and some don’t, not sure why.
Unfortunately I can only post 12 pics, it would take many more pics to do this listing justice.
This is an amazing 2 hour + Color film documenting black middle class (upper middle class) life in the 1970’s, and possibly some footage from the 1960s.
What I am actually selling is the original professional VHS Tape transfer of over two hours of Super 8mm Color film footage shot in the 1970s, which are on this one VHS tape (see photo). Also, at the end of the tape there is Color footage that may be from the 1960s.
This VHS tape I am selling is the original Master Tape from the company that did this professional 8mm film transfer. Their company label is applied to the tape. The VHS Tape they used is the high quality Scotch Brand. This videotape is recorded in the SP mode, the best there is.
I believe this transfer was done in the 1990s. There are probably no other copies of this tape in existence, and I am quite sure the original super 8mm film is long gone. I bought this tape at an estate sale a while ago and I looked throughout the house and there were no film reels.
I will not make any DVD transfers of this VHS tape. I will not make any copies of this tape for sale. You will have exclusivity. If you want I will sign an exclusivity agreement.
To the best of my knowledge you would be buying the only copy in existence. This is absolutely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
As usual for home movies, the technical quality varies from great 8MM to Average to about 5-10 Min that’s blurry and 2-3Min over exposed.; not bad for almost 2Hr & 3min.
The film stock itself is mostly in VG+ condition, although there are places that have a few very thin vertical black lines (you may be able to see it in 1 or 2 of my photos..
Having said that, with a little digital postproduction, (and there is very reasonably priced software now), you can stabilize the images (where needed), enhance resolution (where needed) , and re-saturate some of the color (where needed), correct blur (where needed) and you would have a stunning documentary that can be shown in any venue in the world; and I think billions of people would watch this (and many would even buy it.).
The only downside is this super 8mm film is silent, no audio, but the company that did the transfer applied a very cool soundtrack comprised of funk, modern Jazz, and progressive jazz space rock. The soundtrack goes with the video very well. I didn’t recognize any of the tracks so I don’t know whose music is on the soundtrack, perhaps a group the family knew, or stock music..
Now about the content of this 2+ hour film. It would take a 200-300 page book to accurately describe in detail all the things that happen in this film. There are probably hundreds of differenent scenes in this film. This film has it all, it is charming, very interesting, many many locations, funny scenes, loving scenes, surprising scenes. I should say that parts of this film are definitely “R rated”, I will describe that later.
Briefly, almost anything you can imagine in life happens in this film.
The film starts out as a huge RV caravan road trip, which the tape refers to as a “campers club”. On what seems to be a national vacation, there are locations all over the country.
We do and see many things on our journey, such as a large military airshow (this may be in Canada, because right before that we’re in Niagara Falls, . Later they are ).
There is that cool scene at the camp ground where the guys are sitting around the table drinking and playing cards for money. This foreshadows the scene that follows, which is some really cool nighttime footage of the Las Vegas strip, including the Horseshoe, the Mint, plus many more. (see my photos for a sample). The 1970s was the time that Vegas was transforming from mob control to the corporate situation of today. Also later in the film at about 1Hr 15M there is some good daylight footage og the newer part of the strip (then) of Caesars Palace, The Tropicana, The Dunes,The Royal Casino / Royal Las Vegas Hotel, Circus Circus Casino (& their Sexplosion, etc) (see my photos), the El Morocco, the Sabre Room, the Bagdad Theatre (& their 69 cent breakfast, and their “Topless Riot of the Year”: “Funny Farm” with Rip Taylor. Plus many Marquees showing the performers aooearing, such as Belafonte, Tony Bennett, Nancy W
There is probably 10+ minutes of Vegas footage.
I should note that
Along the way we stop and family and friends houses, in addition to visiting different sites.
22Minutes in, there is Street party!!! I don’t know if this was shot in New Orleans at the Mardi Gras, or maybe San Francisco. Now I have to warn some of you that this Street party is a little shocking and explicit. It contains scenes of fairly close-up female full frontal nudity, and other women partially nude. Also there are many men dressed in drag, transsexuals, transvestites. Also there is an extreme close-up shot ofa white man’s groin area and he is wearing a strap on dildo, and heis waving itaround. Those damn Hippies! You should see the look on some of the Black women’s faces asthey experience this shocking site.
Also 52 min in, there is more if this street party, more nudity, moon shooting, and a brief scene of fairly explicit sex act. Well I have tomake this a warning. Oh those damn Hippies!?!
Now that that is out of the way, lets proceed:
A scene of a black man doing some trick waterskiing,
Some good bikini shots at the beach.
A large House Party (interracial), part of the road trip I think. It is very charming, even includes Grandpa walking around eating a huge slice of watermelon, spitting out seeds as he goes, Corny but cool.
There is footage of an amusement park and a petting zoo. And some type of weird colonial village setting with an electronic settlers and American Indians in some form of battle in which the cabins are on fire and settlers shooting Indians.
Footage from inside a jet airliner (a 727 I believe) with a lot of black people on board that seem to know each other, so it was probably some type of charter flight. Also includes outside footage shot through the window of the jet. Their destination is overseas, Costa Del Sol, Malaga in the south of Spain, and some very nice footage there.
A large picnic in the park, girls dancing,
Of course along the way there is family stuff, very nice Christmas footage in a living room, dancing and many things like that.
The family pet, a small white terrier poodle mix, makes an appearance throughout the second hour of this “feature film”. He even kisses the baby.
Many locationsCanada, and Niagara falls Maid of the Mist.
Moonlite Gardens, Woods hole, Martha’s’ Vineyard Nantucket, Gay Head Cliffs, Athens Georgia, Chattanooga TN, New Orleans (I think) , Country World Flea Market, for some shopping, a motel, neat close-up footage of Horseman’s Park in Las Vegas and some good rodeo action (steer roping etc) amd a few Black cowboys,
Gulf Course tennis courts
More Sexy girl photos in a bar and one of our family kisses one more humor.
The family speed boating.
A black girl learning to water-ski, and after a few tries she succeeds!,(filmed from inside the speedboat). Nice 1-2 min scene. Family reunions, There are many inter-racial scenes.
There may be 100 family members or more.Plus a “Cast” of thousands, maybe 10’s of thousands.
I have tried to be accurate, but you must excuse me if I have made any minor mistakes.
This is definitely the “Citizen Kane” of home movies,
In conclusion, I love this family. And this is definitely an entertaining feature film.;
Regarding payment, I want to do another method besides paypal, I request this in case someone buys this andburns a copy and them tries to return it for a refund. Paypal and offer little to no protection for sellers, I know this first hand.
The buyer/ potential buyer can send me their number and we can talk about imbursement
