Opium Label Apothecary Jar, Emerald Green, Ribbed For “poison”:
Early ribbed emerald green apothecary bottle with beautiful handpainted gold gilt label for “Liq. Ext. Opii”. The ribbed design was used to warn the druggist that the contents were poisonous and should be used with caution. This is a narrow mouth jar that stands 5.5” tall to the top of the original matching stopper. The jar is empty and clean. The jar is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks, or damage of any kind. The original stopper fits perfectly and can easily be removed. The original painted label is in good condition with some small areas of wear and missing paint, most noticeably on the “ii” in “opii”. These minor label imperfections are visible in the photos and as you can see, the bottle displays very nicely. The base of the jar has an embossed “W” inside a hexagon.
