A vintage Philip Oriel sterling shell & lion handle center piece of a design by Paul de Lamerie.

Waldron illustrates identical piece on page 117.

More commonly found with caryatid handles.

Oriel Worked in New York City in the 1920s.

Shell form undulating teardrop gadroon rim.

Thin panel fluting to the interior wall captures the natural light brilliantly.

Reclining lion atop handle. The handle rises from satin chased three fin body.

Atop spread fin curled serpent feet.

This Lamerie style lion and serpent center bowl 13 inches across

and it is 9 1/2 tall and weigh 48 1/2 (standard) ounces.

Never monogrammed.

Hallmarked as shown.

Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous sterling patina.

Stands firm. Original detail.
