Original FRANK LESLIE'S ILLUSTRATED NEWSPAPER, dated March 30, 1861. COMPLETE in 16 pages, Folio (15 3/4” x 11 1/4”). IN FINE CONDITION!
Featured in this issue is an original 6 1/2" X 8 3/4" wood engraving "VIEW IN CINCINNATI--FOURTH STREET (EAST OF VINE STREET), THE FASHIONABLE AND BUSINESS THOROUGHFARE OF THE QUEEN CITY OF THE WEST"
A sample of the accompanying column-length article reads, "Fourth street has long been the fashionable thoroughfare of Cincinnati, but it is not more than five years since the magnificent buildings represented in our engraving were erected. The business part of the street before that date was east of Walnut, the Post-office being on the corner of Sycamore, but with the removal of the Post-office to its present site on the corner of Vine street, and the erection of those elegant structure, the most fashionable and successful business houses fixed their location in this vicinity. The corner building, opposite the Post-office (of which we introduce a partial view), is occupied in the two lower stories by that prince of tailors, T.W. Sprague, the only man in the West who approaches New York clothiers in extent of his business and elegance of his workmanship...".
