Biscuit Tin Advertising Sign

Huntley & Palmers was founded in 1822 and, during the next 150 years, came to be "The Most Famous Biscuit Company in the World."

This cardboard sign would have been displayed on an interior wall of the store. It advertises "Huntley & Palmers Biscuits". It is displaying a tin of Huntley and Palmers Biscuits from their 1927 range. The tin is on a table with a vase of roses, showing the “superior” biscuit range; all ready for tea.

The sign is of very thick cardboard with the original oak frame. It is in original "as found" condition, the colours have faded in places and it has marks that look like it’s had cocoa thrown at it!! It also has some rippling to the surface. There are some patches of paint loss along with some scratches. Because it is made of card, part of the sign has flexed. All of this is mentioned for clarity as none of it can detract from a fabulous piece of vintage advertising.

It measures 89cm (35 inches) x 65 cm (25 ½ inches).

Considering the age of the sign, the colours are faded but have a lovely depth, there are inevitably, some patches of paint loss and signs of surface wear as can be seen in the photographs. All of this just adds to the character and charm of an item that has lived a life!

The sign will make a great display item, and is a wonderful piece of social history.
