Fine Original Revolutionary War Pike Head

Just a nice example of a Rev War pike head, almost certainly American as it bears no signs of royal armourer hallmarks or stamps.

Pikes such as this were a simple yet effective weopon of warfare, used both in defense and offensive tactics. The head of the piece having been fitted on a long wooden pole. Similar examples to this can be seen in numerous books on the subject of Revolutionary War weaponry, see Neumann\'s Collectors Encyclopedia of the American Revolution as well as Swords and Blades of the American Revolution.

Nice typical signs of construction, this being a straightforward design, typical of those used by the infantry. Great pointed leaf shaped blade measures 1 7/8\" wide with the piece being 8 3/4\" long overall.

There is some pitting to the piece, slight oxidation. As you can see it even has the original hole in the collar where it would have been affixed with a nail onto a long wooden shaft.
