Original 1936 London Underground Pocket Map (No. 2 1936) - Designed by Henry \'Harry\' Beck. Vintage original. Near Perfect condition.Early HC Beck design. *Voted #2 most Iconic British Designs of All Time (after Concorde)* Printed by Johnson Riddle & Co Ltd for London TransportThis edition \'No 2, 1936\' was printed just 3 years after the introduction of Harry Becks revolutionary \'diagram\' in 1933. The first series of HC Beck maps, with their blue border, ran from 1933-1938, after which responsibility for the design temporarily fell into the hands of Hans Schleger until Beck was reinstated as chief designer of the map in 1941. The blue border series saw a number of tweaks over the 5 years but overall it differed little from the January 1933 version. Indeed many feel the 1936 edition was the cleanest design among them all. In 1935, Becks rather reluctant Interchange station design was added to the rear of the map and also features on this edition.1st editions of the 1933 Beck map are now achieving over £2750. This edition remains remarkably unchanged to the 1933 edition though most of the changes were for the better. Some line colour changes and round interchange stations replacing diamonds are some examples of where the design was tweaked by Beck and his superiors at the newly named London Transport (was London Passenger Transport Board until late 1933). This early edition of the iconic and important design is available to anyone in the world.
