A wonderful very large antique hand painted Russian Orthodox Icon dating around 1700s and depicting the trinity of God the Father, God the son and God The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. Signed with the title at the top center in cyrillic text and with inscriptions under the cruxifix and above each charachter in cyrillic text.
A wonderful piece, with absolute exquisite detail and depicting skin tonality only found on the quality rennaisance pieces of art found in Museums. The artist/ Writer is unknown. The wooden base has suffered from the elimends over the decades and has warped in aa convex formation. No supports were added to this icond to slow the process or minimise the curving formation. The icon has old nails on the outer edges and splits to the outer left and right sides as shown. Dispite the splits, the icon is sturdy and is obviously showing signs of wear commensurate with age.
