Original Civil War dog tag using the GEORGE WASHINGTON / BORN FEBRUARY 22, 1732 obverse die by Merriam. Reverse punches show this was worn by J. B. COLVIN / SERGT. / CO. K. / 56TH REG. PAV. / TO WIFE / MARY S. / LENOX, PA. An internet search found records for a Jared B. Colvin commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant to this company on November 22, 1864. White metal, holed, with wear appropriate for actual use. 35.9 mm.
