Civil War Period Leather Artillery Valise.Made of saddle leather, this piece measures approximately 15\" inches long and9 x 9\"inches wide & high. A heavy leather flap extends well over the front of the valise and on top is the bold embossedUS .It has a tie down strap on its back withperiod copper rivets all over and a metalsecure bar on its front . The mainstrap buckle is secure and the original strap remains but needs re-sewn. It is a very solid leather artillery tool chest box and very scarce. The leather is stiff, but it opens easily and has minimal crazing.Referenced inFrancis A. Lord\'s classic Civil War Encyclopediathat shows an example of such a case. This would be a great add to any artillery collection.
