Original Cover Art Cracked Magazine John Severin Comic Artist Signed Like Mad:
This is for the original cover art to cracked magazine Done in 1970 By Comic artist noted for many comics including Marvels Greatest characters John Severin Done for issue number 89 November 1970. This is the real art for that cover not the magazine I posted one image of the magazine with the art on it but this is for the original ne of a kind art done by a master illustrator that is no longer with us the great John Severin(December 26, 1921 – February 12, 2012) This illustartion was the actual art so it has the markings cover ups and other correction and printing materials on the artwork. I have loved this artwork and it has been proudly displayed in my residence for years and now I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. The artwork seems to me a mixed media piece being there is many textures and art material used. The character on the cover isSylvester P. Smythe he is Cracked's janitor and serves as the publication's official mascot.Sylvester appeared on the cover of the very first issue of Cracked and was seen in the background throughout the issue. He was drawn in this issue (and many of his early appearances) as tall and lanky, usually engaged in the act of patching up cracks in the walls behind the main action. His hair, though already blonde (Bill Everett's Beetle Bailey-esqe depiction on issue No. 1's border notwithstanding), was depicted as long in the front and shaved bald in the back until the late sixties, when he would begin being depicted with a full head of hair. Various takes on this lankier Sylvester would appear for the first couple of years by such artists as Bill Everett, Will Elder and Jack Davis until John Severin's version became the standard around 1961.Please ask me any questions you would like. God Bless.
