Original STAR WARS Pre-Release Exhibitors Pressbook Brochure 1977:
$650.00

This is an original of the famed offer Brochurethat was issued in by 20th Century-Fox to alert movie theater owners ofthe coming release of Star Wars + to try and stir up some interest amongexhibitors so they would book the film.

The brochure is in almost pristine condition.

What\'s notable about the brochure is the coverart. Created by Suzi Rice, a young graphic designer, it is the first version ofwhat was to become ( with one minor change ) the title logo style for thefor all aspects of the entire career of the film --- to this day.Rice recounts the birth of the type style in her blog:

“I was there to design a offer Brochure that was to be used by Foxto send to Exhibitors (theatres) to “book the film” prior to the film’srelease. There was a great deal at stake and if I’d stopped back then at thatage to think about the immense responsibility of actually representing STARWARS in a pre-release appealing-to-future-sales presentation, I think it wouldhave meant a freezing of ideas. So I was naive at that time and it was goodthat I was. I literally was focused on the tasks at hand without anyimplications. A good thing.

This tale is told in a condensed version bySteve Sansweet on pages 11-12 of his masterwork, The Star Wars Poster Book(Chronicle Books, 2005).

The only other major use of the original logowas for the mylar advance poster (advance #1). When it came time to plug Ms.Rice\'s original font into the poster layout for the iconic Style A onesheet, it was found that the letter W wouldn\'t scan properly and a designer,Joe Johnston, made a slight change to the letter, pulling the center element abit higher, so as to be even with the other two strokes. With that, the shapeand form of one of the most famous logo\'s of the modern era, was born.

Thus, this brochure was the touchstone for alogo that came to be universally recognized all over the world.

The brochure runs 24 pages, including thecovers and is printed on extremely heavy paper, approaching card stock in itsthickness. The contents of the brochure feature bios of the stores andmanylarge color images from the film.
