Original US Civil War Model 1850 Staff and Field Officers Sword, Klingenthal:

This is an Original Civil War Period, US Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer\'s Sword. This model sword was worn by Officers of the rank of Major and higher. Manufactured by the famous French factory Klingenthal. It has a nicely etched 29\"x1-1/8\" dual fullered blade with US motifs of American Eagle, \"e pluribus unum\", and \"U.S.\". The spline of the blade has the Klingenthal manufacturers name and the ricasso has the proper proof marks. The steal scabbard, with brass fittings, has a dark brown finish and has several dents and a small crack in it. The top hanger ring is missing. The grips are sharkskin over wood and are about 60% complete. The beautiful brass guard has the prominent \"US\" and floral leaf design on it common to most Model 1850 Staff and Field swords. The pommel cap is missing from this otherwise very desirable sword. This sword is from my personal collection which I am selling off over the next several months.
