\"Urgent need for funds to support the war\" prompted many beautiful illustrations of our national symbols. DeLand imagined the Statue of Liberty standing in a shimmering version of New York harbor silhouetted against a vibrant sunset that doubles as a diaphanous American Flag.

Artist: Eugenie DeLand ((SAUGSTAD), born1872, renowned animal and poster artist.
