This
large sterling silver serving spoon is 215 years old and was made by
Thomas Northcote & George Bourne.
It is stamped with their maker's mark and has the English sterling
hallmarks for London 1795. It would have been a plain spoon in the Old
English pattern when they made it. The chasing and engraving was added
in the 19th century when the plain Georgian pieces went out of style.
The engraving is especially nice and different on each side.
It's
in excellent condition with very little wear and no repairs or other
damage. The fruit filled bowl is gilded. It measures 8 1/2"
long and 1 3/4" across the bowl. It's heavy
and solid (56.9 grams) and would look great with any traditional silver
pattern.
