Ornate Georgian 22ct Foiled Aquamarine? Gold 18.8g Brooch Pin Pre Victorian K For Sale
You are invited to offer on this stunning brooch which I believe dates from the Georgian period. Sparkling foiled Aquamarines? adorn the generous 22ct gold scrolls which are lavishly engraved to create a truly beautiful brooch. The brooch measures approximately 4.5cm (1.8 inches) by 4.1cm (1.6 inches) and weighs a generous 18.77 grams. The central stone measures approximately 12mm x 9.8mm, excluding mount.
I believe this brooch tells a story, still visible today. Owing to the curve of the brooch, which can be seen in the picture below, I believe it was once part of an extremely lavish bracelet and has been altered into the piece we see today. At some point the piece also lost a stone, as the replacement, whilst a fair colour match, iscabochonunlike the other faceted gems. Personally I think this all adds to the character of the brooch but please decide for yourself.
The 'c' clasp & pin are secure and in full working order. There are no hallmarks present, as was so common in pieces of this age, but it has been fully tested and is guaranteed genuine 22ct gold. It is not pinchbeck, rolled gold or plated. The foil backed stones give the impression of being aquamarines but I cannot be sure of this so please make up your own mind.
Please note all measurements are approximate. I haveendeavouredto describe the brooch fully but please study the pictures carefully, they are an integral part of the description. If you have any questions or would like more photos just drop me a line through or telephone our shop on 01202 431180.
