Orrefors Nils Landberg Swedish Art Glass Bud Vase Midcentury Modern Scandina 50s:
Estate found this art glass vase is made by fusing different colors of glass together in layers for a truly amazing 3D effect, with a sense of depth the piece changes from clear to solid with just a slight shift in the viewing angle. The clear lead crystal vase is heavy for its size and surprisingly stable for its shape, it measuring approximately 4-3/4" high by 4-3/4" wide and 2" at its thickest. While the subtle stylized heart-like shape is typical modern design that will look beautiful on any table or mantle. The piece is hand signed with a name and serial number "orrefors" / "n3538-518" on the bottom.
Overall excellent condition for the age with only one tiny pinhead flea bite on one face.
The design may be from the 1950s and references* found suggest the marking on the piece indicate it is the handwork of artisan Nils Landberg sometime in the 1950's (1955 or 1958, while another references associate the style of signature with single letter initial puts production between 1960 and 1980. The hand signed serial number may end an "8" but the last digit might also be an "E" for 1970 or a "G" for 1972.
* The websites "Glass from Sweden" and "Sweden Art Glass dot Com" were refferenced. Orrefors used different signature systems for different types of glass. And Orrefors used different numbering systems with most of their art glass. These websites have tried to give as much information on the different types of signatures and dating systems as possible.
