Ottoman Turkish, Columbia Grand Prize, 78 RPM, Phonograph Record:
$14.50

Here we have a Columbia Grand Prize Label Ottoman Turkish Record. Turkey changed to the Latin Alphabet in 1928. I am guessing by the Label it was recorded between 1910 and 1916. Columbia did have a recording studio in Istanbul during that time. But I am guessing that This record was meant for the American Market, as it shows the price in the US and Canada. The record was given to me by the family of an immigrant who came to the US from the Isle of Rhodes in 1916. At that time Rhodes was a possession of the Ottoman Empire. This is Columbia # E2787. Very few people can read Ottoman Turkish, so I have no idea the names of the songs. They were sung by Yoosoof Effendi.
This record is not in very good condition. There are a lot of scratches and scrapes and even a lamination crack. However, I played both sides on my Victrola. There is surface noise, but it plays through just fine. Normally I would never offer a record in this condition, but for a collector of ancient Turkish Recordings, it might have great interest. Accordingly there is a starting offer of only One Dollar. This record will be shipped in a special Re-useable cardboard box. The shipping cost is $9.75. International at cost. Thank you.
